ShiftTrained Connects Directly to Toast and Square, Turning a Restaurant's Point of Sale Into Staff Training Automatically
Operators can now connect their POS in a few clicks. ShiftTrained reads the live menu, pulls the items, prices, descriptions, and photos, and builds a complete training quiz from it. No uploads, no retyping.

ShiftTrained, the AI menu training platform built for restaurants, today announced direct integration with Toast and Square, two of the point of sale systems independent restaurants run on every day. Operators connect their POS in a few clicks, and ShiftTrained automatically pulls their menu, including item names, prices, descriptions, and photos, and turns it into a custom training quiz for their staff. Their team roster can come straight from the POS too, and the training stays current as the menu changes.
What ShiftTrained does: the platform turns a restaurant's menu into training its staff actually retains. An operator connects their POS, or uploads a menu, and our AI reads every item, ingredient, price, allergen, and photo, then generates 100 to 400 quiz questions tailored to that menu. Staff take the quiz right on their phones in minutes, with no app to download. Managers see who knows the menu, by person and by question, plus a live leaderboard, and can import their team straight from the POS. It fixes a problem operators have lived with for decades. What a team knows about the menu is what shows up at the table, and pre-shift meetings do not actually teach it.
“Every operator I know already lives in their POS. It's where the menu actually changes, three times a week, in the middle of service,” said Terry Psaltakis, founder of ShiftTrained, who has spent more than thirty years running restaurants. “Toast and Square are where your menu already lives. We make it teach your floor. You change a price or add a special, and the training follows automatically. The menu trains the team itself.”
Connecting is quick and safe. Square uses a simple sign in and approval, Toast a guided setup, and in both cases the restaurant grants read-only access to its menu and team. ShiftTrained never touches payments, customer data, or sales.
Built by a real operator, used around the world
ShiftTrained was built and tested in real restaurants by a real restaurateur, and today it is used by restaurants all over the world, locally here in the US and around the globe.
“I change my menu in my POS all the time. That's just running a bar,” said Tommy P., owner of Fat Tommy's Grill & Sports Bar. “Now I drop in a special, and the quiz my team takes already knows it. I'm not uploading anything again. The morning we connected it, my bartenders were quizzing each other on the new cocktails, and nobody told them to.”
The integration is available to every ShiftTrained customer, including those on the free trial. There is no credit card required to start, and connecting a POS and building training is free. Plans are based simply on how many staff a restaurant trains.
