How the Toast connection works

You connect Toast from inside ShiftTrained, the same way you'd connect any tool: a few credentials, one click, done. From that moment we can read your menu, your sections, your prices, and your team roster directly. No exporting, no spreadsheets, no asking your Toast rep for a data dump.

The second the connection lands, we pull your live menu and run it through the same AI pipeline that powers the rest of ShiftTrained: 100 to 400 quiz questions per menu, written from your real items and descriptions, fact-checked, and grouped by section. A few minutes later your staff has a quiz waiting on their phone.

The menu maintains itself

This is the part operators don't expect. When you change a price in Toast, 86 an item, or add a special, ShiftTrained notices. We delete the questions that no longer apply, write new ones for what you added, and flag the change so nobody's being quizzed on a dish you pulled three weeks ago. Your training stays as current as your menu, because it is your menu.

That's the buggy-whip moment for restaurant training. The old way was a binder that went stale the day you printed it. The new way is a quiz that updates itself every time you touch your POS.

It pulls your team, too

Toast already knows who works for you and what they do. ShiftTrained reads your active roster and their job titles, so you're not re-keying server and bartender names into yet another system. How long does it take to connect Toast?

A couple of minutes. You connect from inside ShiftTrained, we pull your menu, and the quiz generates a few minutes later. No data export, no waiting on a rep.

Does my training update when I change my menu in Toast?

Yes. When you change a price, remove an item, or add a special, ShiftTrained re-syncs: it retires questions for items you pulled, writes new ones for what you added, and flags the change so nobody's quizzed on a stale menu.

What about cocktails and drinks?

Toast captures drink names and prices well, but most cocktail recipes don't live in Toast. Food comes across cleanly; for a cocktail program you can upload a quick drink PDF or photo, or build a Know Your Brands quiz from your spirits list.

Do I have to import every employee?

No. We read your active Toast roster and you choose who to train. Importing staff is always free, you only pay as your team grows and you send them training.

Is my Toast data secure?

Your credentials are encrypted at rest and used only to read your menu and roster for training. We never write back to your POS or touch orders, payments, or guest data.
